The Queen of Sheeeba [userpic]
So laid back.

This is the first year since we bought the house that no one is coming over. I did put this question to the rest of the house very early in October. Since every single one of us works and/or schools for at least 10 hours a day, nobody wanted to devote the one or two hours a day it would take to get the house company ready.

We are still making a shitload of food. Hard to break the habit. Dany is making a turkey breast, collard greens and mac 'n cheese. Justin is on the ham, regular stuffing and mashed potatoes. Ebs is making a pumpkin pie and I've got candied yams, sausage cornbread stuffing and the walnut pie.

With nobody coming, the pressure is off. We've been wandering in the kitchen by twos prepping, assembling, drinking egg nog.

We are also experimenting. In a giant stock pot we've put a pernil bone, 2 chopped up chicken necks, celery, onions, sweet peppers, parsley, garlic, salt, black pepper more than a pinch of all the dried spices we have from our garden (including a few dried lavender flowers, haven't had the nerve to use it in anything until now) boiling away. When a recipe calls for stock, we dip a measuring cup in, then add some more water.

The downside to all this laid back cooking is that there won't be anyone coming over later.
